Entropy Calculator
Calculate entropy change (ΔS) for heat transfer processes using ΔS = Q / T
Calculator
Enter the heat transfer and temperature to calculate the change in entropy. Leave one field blank to solve for it.
About the Entropy Calculator
The Entropy Calculator allows you to quickly compute the relationship between heat transfer (Q), temperature (T), and entropy change (ΔS) for reversible thermodynamic processes. Simply enter any two known values, and the calculator automatically determines the remaining parameter using ΔS = Q / T. This tool is ideal for engineering students, researchers, and thermodynamics professionals.
What You Can Calculate
- Heat Transfer (Q): The thermal energy added or removed from the system, measured in Joules (J) or kilojoules (kJ).
- Temperature (T): The absolute temperature of the system, measured in Kelvin (K) or Celsius (°C).
- Entropy Change (ΔS): The change in entropy of the system, measured in J/K or kJ/K.
Formulas Used in the Calculator
The calculator uses the fundamental relation for reversible processes:
- ΔS = Q ÷ T (Entropy change = Heat transfer ÷ Temperature)
- Q = ΔS × T (Heat transfer calculated from entropy change and temperature)
- T = Q ÷ ΔS (Temperature calculated from heat transfer and entropy change)
These formulas allow accurate calculations with unit conversions between Joules (J) and kilojoules (kJ), and temperatures between Kelvin (K) and Celsius (°C).
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter any two known quantities — for example, heat transfer and temperature.
- Select the appropriate units for each value (J/kJ for heat and entropy, K/°C for temperature).
- The calculator will automatically compute the missing value using the entropy formula.
- Adjust inputs as needed to analyze different thermodynamic scenarios.
Applications of Entropy Analysis
- Calculate entropy changes in reversible thermodynamic processes.
- Analyze energy distribution and disorder in heat transfer systems.
